Ceramic sculptures are often considered "porcelains" , although technically they are not. Like porcelains however, they are a kiln fired body of clay that makes a chemical change during the firing process when the raw silica changes to glass. Some pieces in the Cathexis line are available in a high gloss glaze finish, some are only available in the matte finish. Available finishes and standard colors will be noted on each piece.
The resins are the newest addition at the Studio. All of the resins used at Cathexis are polyurethane based, impregnated with porcelain powders, or in some cases, bronze or other metal powders. They do not go thru a kiln firing process, and therefore are considered "cold cast". They are wonderful for maintaining exacting detail, and are widely used in today's world of collectibles. Available only in a matte finish, and standard colors available will be noted on each piece.

Sculptures at Cathexis Studios now come in two mediums, ceramics and resins, although you will currently find a larger selection of breeds in the ceramics since that is where it all began! Resins are the newest addition at the studio, and we're excited about them! For those of you who have collections that are medium based.....we have divided the categories for you to easily go to the medium of your choice. For those of you who base your collection on a specific breed, we suggest you look at both categories as several breeds are available in both mediums (they will be linked on their specific pages). Don't know the difference between ceramics and resins? Check out the "techniques" link on the home page.
