| Few types of artwork can capture an animal better than sculpture. Here's some of the reasons why. By it's dimensional nature alone, you have the ability to touch it and "feel" the shape and the medium, to "feel" the muscles and the coat texture; you have the ability to view it from every angle, just as you do in life; to capture the color and expression....that special "cock" of the head, or raised paw, sometimes difficult to capture in a photo. and in some cases, in dogs of uncertain parentage, a custom sculpture is the ONLY way you can have a figurine that really looks like them! When you think of sculpture in those terms, you can better understand why there are many many things to consider when deciding on commissioning a figurine. That's why a simple rate chart isn't possible. Private consultations and individual quotes are the only real way to know the amount of an investment you can expect. Here is a list of some of the questions you will need to consider when asking for a quote. 1. What medium do you want your completed sculpture to be? Ceramic - Cold Cast Porcelain - Cold Cast Bronze - Bronze Each of these mediums require something different to bring them to reality 2. What size do you want your finished piece to be? Are you looking for a small piece to set on your curio shelf or a larger piece to be the focal point of a room? Cathexis Studios does not do life size sculpting, but can refer you to a talented sculptor who does. 3. What type of pose do you have in mind? A figurine in a sitting or lying pose, or even a head bust, requires different (and less) time to create than a standing or walking pose......and those require less than a figurine that is gaiting, running or jumping. All are possible, all are welcome :-) 4. Do you want your sculpture to be a one of a kind? This can greatly influence the cost. 5. Do you have numerous photos for the artist to work from? As elementary as this sounds, if the artist isn't able to see the animal in person because of distance or perhaps because the animal is no longer living, photos or videos become necessary to "capture" the things that make them who they are. Commissioned sculptures start at $500.00. |
